How can we help? 👋

Gamified Life Tracker Notion Template

We’ve built a component that makes it so that it’s really easy for you to build gamification into any Notion workspace.

Organizing tools like Notion templates can become complicated, especially when you’re juggling multiple workflows and streams of information in your life. With so many moving parts, it can be overwhelming to manage everything within a single system. That’s where components come in.

Most of the time, we need to solve one problem at a time. To do that effectively, it’s important to break down the challenge into its fundamental parts—first principles—so we can focus on what really matters and take actionable steps.

Components help you do exactly that. They allow us to group similar databases together into manageable chunks. This modular approach simplifies the larger system, breaking it down into smaller, more focused parts that you can tackle individually. By organizing everything into components, you’re able to manage your workflow more effectively and avoid being overwhelmed by the complexity of the full system.

The Gamified Life Tracker Notion Template is a powerful component that lets you visualize your life as a game. It helps you visualize your progress, log your activities, and earn rewards—turning your daily actions into XP, levels, and gold.

This component works great standalone, and is also offered as a set with components that work seamlessly with it as a set so you don’t need to build it out yourself.

If you’ve purchased any of the following components, or have the Gamify Your Life Pack, go to the following guides after you’ve finished learning about this component to use them together.

Leaderboard Database

How do I visualize my life progress?

The Leaderboard Database is where we summarize all the information that you want to track in your Notion system into meaningful information for you. Concretely put, its where you can see your health, levels, XP, gold, and more.

The leaderboard gets fed information from the Activity Log Database, and helps you summarize and visualize the information.

How It Works

  • Each record is considered a “Player” on the leaderboard.
  • When the record is related to activity log entries through the Log property, the formulas immediately pick up relevant information from the activities done:
    • Level: This sums up all the XP earned via activities tracked by the activity log.
    • Habits: This counts all the habits done for that day tracked by the activity log.
    • Gold: This sums up all the Gold earned as well as subtracts any gold spent via activities tracked by the activity log.
    • HP: This sums up all the health you have, tracked by the activity log.

Setup

  • Customize Your Character Start by renaming “You” to your own character name. Personalize your experience further by replacing the cover image and icon to match your style or goals.

Views

  • All: Shows you all of the players currently tracked in your leaderboard.
    • A gallery view that displays character like a “player card”
    • A table view that is less taxing on your computer and shows stats plainly.

FAQs

  • How do I add new players? Simply add a new record (or edit Conrad’s) and follow the setup steps. Then, we’ll need to do some setup in the Activity Log Database to make sure new wins can associate wins properly with the right character.

Activity Log Database

How do I track activities in my workspace?

The Activity log helps you track valuable actions within your workspace.

How It Works

  • The activity log is related to the following databases, and every new record needs to be related to a record in both databases to work properly.
  • Details is a formula that helps you set up custom wordings for your different types of wins.
  • To start, we should have a template for every player that is on the leaderboard that automatically link to the right player (we’ve created 2 for you to get started).
  • To make sure the tracker is related properly and that we are using the right template for the player that the activity should be attributed to, we use buttons inside the tracker database. See an example here: Sample Gamified Tracker Database

Setup

No additional setup required! You don’t need to add any entries into this database manually.

Views

  • All: See all of your recent connected activity, sorted by recency.
  • Breakdown: See a line graph of your activity to date.

Relating New Trackers

When you relate new trackers to this database, you’ll need to also tweak the following formulas to make sure they’re picking up the information properly.

  • XP , Gold , HP

If you’re not comfortable yet with Notion formulas, we’ve already done all this setup for you if you get a specific component you want or the Gamify Your Life Notion Template pack.

After adding a new player to the leaderboard, you must add a new template in this database connecting to that player as well. The easiest way to do that is to click on the 3 dots next to the original template and press “Duplicate”, and then go in and tweak the Leaderboard relation.

Sample Gamified Tracker Database

How do I track my wins?

We built and connected a simple database to the activity log to show you the minimum requirements you need to get the leaderboard and activity log to track any database in your Notion system.

How It Works

  • This tracker has a relation to the Activity log that in turn, has formulas which will read the XP and Gold properties of any entry that is connected to it.
  • We set up a button called Hand In (You) that when pressed, performs the following actions and awards you the appropriate reward in your leaderboard:
    • Notion image
      • Creates a new entry in Activity Log
      • Uses the template that specifically relates your player on the leaderboard
      • Connects the new Activity Log entry to this entry.
  • Just to show you how multiple people could share one database, we’ve also made a button called Hand In (Conrad) that shows you that if pressing that button rewards another player instead.

Setup

  • Create a new entry in the tracker by pressing “New”.
  • Fill in how much XP and Gold you’d like to earn from this win.
  • Press the Hand In (You) button to see your rewards!

One Time vs Repeated Wins

If you make the relation to activity log limit to 1 page (default), it forces the win to be one time only. If you set it to unlimited, it works like a habit where you can hand it in repeatedly.

Notion image

Automate XP and Gold

XP and Gold can be set by a formula instead, so you don’t have to manually put your own custom values for each win.
