Achievement Tracker (Badges) Notion Template

Track and reward yourself for accomplishments you’ve tracked in Notion.

Organizing tools like Notion templates can become complicated, especially when you’re juggling multiple workflows and streams of information in your life. With so many moving parts, it can be overwhelming to manage everything within a single system. That’s where components come in.

Most of the time, we need to solve one problem at a time. To do that effectively, it’s important to break down the challenge into its fundamental parts—first principles—so we can focus on what really matters and take actionable steps.

Components help you do exactly that. They allow us to group similar databases together into manageable chunks. This modular approach simplifies the larger system, breaking it down into smaller, more focused parts that you can tackle individually. By organizing everything into components, you’re able to manage your workflow more effectively and avoid being overwhelmed by the complexity of the full system.

The Achievement Tracker (Badges) Notion Template is a fleshed out Badges database that helps you automatically track the progress and get recognition of achievements you have in your Notion workspace. It’s set up to be dynamic and can track multiple different badges at a time.

This component is highly flexible, and it’s set up for you to learn how to track whatever you wish in your Notion workspace with common badges built-in. Please be warned that major customization is complicated, because you’ll be dealing with advanced use cases of Notion formulas. Ask questions in our community if you need help!

Badges Database

How do we keep track of the achievements we want to earn in our life?

The Badges Database starts with 4 badges that already help you track the most common things you will want to have badges for.

Starter Badges

  • Gold Hoarder: This connects to your Leaderboard and tracks the Gold balance of a specific player or multiple players.
  • Hydro Homie: This connects to your Habits and for the specific habit that you choose to connect to the badge, it will count how many has been done.
  • Complete 4 Quests: This connects to your Projects & Tasks and counts how many tasks OR projects with Status = Complete are connected to this badge.
  • Accountability Badge: This connects to your Sample Badge Tracker and tracks if the latest Date for the entry connected is Today or not.

We’ve created this database to be extremely flexible, so that tweaks to the existing badges and making multiple of them is extremely easy (eg. wanting Gold Hoarder to be earned on 1000 gold instead of 500 gold, or having multiple tiers, like having a new badge called Gold King to be earned on 1500 gold, or even tracking different people!). Just make a duplicate of the badge and tweak the numbers.

How It Works

  • Description helps you explain the condition to unlock this badge.
  • At A Glance displays the progress of this badge, and also contains the bulk of the logic for this component. The logic changes based on the following properties:
    • Relation tells the badge which relation the badge should be drawing data from.
    • Property tells the badge which property inside the other database is of importance to us.
    • Filter tells the badge what specific state we want the other entry to be in for it to count.
    • Target tells us what number we are aiming for.
  • Relations to different databases to get information from them for the badge logic.

Depending on how you got the Badge component, these relations may not be there (since you don’t have access to the other components).

Sample Badge Tracker Database

How can I make badges work with any database?

We built and connected a simple database to the badges database to show you the minimum requirements you need to get the badge to track any achievement in your Notion workspace.

This is a sample if you had a database where you wanted to have a daily action.

How It Works

Notion image

  • This tracker has a relation to the Badge database that in turn, has formulas which will read the properties of any entry that is connected to it, and in this case, it will be reading the Date property.
  • Each record needs to be related to the badge so the badge can track it.
  • Once you have a record that day, the badge completion will change.

Customize

  • You can build this database up to do pretty much anything - habit tracker, projects / tasks, etc.
