Organizing tools like Notion templates can become complicated, especially when you’re juggling multiple workflows and streams of information in your life. With so many moving parts, it can be overwhelming to manage everything within a single system. That’s where components come in.
Most of the time, we need to solve one problem at a time. To do that effectively, it’s important to break down the challenge into its fundamental parts—first principles—so we can focus on what really matters and take actionable steps.
Components help you do exactly that. They allow us to group similar databases together into manageable chunks. This modular approach simplifies the larger system, breaking it down into smaller, more focused parts that you can tackle individually. By organizing everything into components, you’re able to manage your workflow more effectively and avoid being overwhelmed by the complexity of the full system.
The Skills Tree Notion Template is a powerful component that lets you build up your skills like you would in a game. Track the different skills you want to build up, and see your overall mastery as you practice different competencies within the skill tree.

Skills Practice Database
How do we understand what to practice next to level up our mastery?
The Skills Practice Database helps you be specific about what level of mastery you are in for each of the practice areas in your skills.
How It Works
- For each practice area, you can set 3 levels of mastery.
Mastery
will give you a live % for this practice area.
L1/L2/L3 Description
explains what achieving that level means.
L1/L2/L3 Status
is the current status of that level.

Practice Log Database
How do we keep track of when and what we’ve practiced?
The Practice Log Database helps you keep track of practice that you’ve put in for your skills. It also doubles as a reflection journal, so you can make notes on your practice session and meaningfully work towards mastery.
How It Works
- Each entry in this log = one practice day.
Name
helps you identify what you did for the practice.
Date
lets you specify when you practiced. Feel free to add a time as well!
Skills Practice
is the link between your log and the skill area you worked on.
You can link multiple practice areas for one practice session, but we typically recommend one entry = one practice area so you are focused.
Setup
No setup required. You can just add a new log entry directly from the Practice Today
button from Skills Practice Database.
